Gotcha! I have not been changing teams to the dark side! Recently I had a great time with SOB. It made this old girl in the scoot get some self esteem back. My daughter was with me along with Lauren and Zuri. I know front row students are aghast. Ms. Alley is taking a walk on the wild side! I am talking about a beauty salon, Styles on Broadway.

When we arrived, I was thinking, “There is no way to help a quadriplegic with anything.” It has literally been almost 2 years since I got the Anne Hathaway pixie hair style. I forgot about the melon head beneath my hair. Everything, especially the linebacker neck that appeared out of nowhere. Students, 3 chins appeared and my neck disappeared. Lauren appeared and whisked us away to her station. I had delusions of a good hair wash and massage. After Abbey’s cut, it was scrub a dub and the massage. I looked around at all the beautiful technicians and felt like a handicapped ogre, Fiona, in a wheelchair. It made it obvious why my dating days are over. ( Read the blog about my insanity trying dating sites for people with disabilities like me. I lasted for one day.) My meds were upped and something that was dead woke up in me. I was noticing men everywhere. Speaking of men, muscled up men were in and out of the SOB! I am trying to find a dark corner to hide me and my 400 pound wheelchair. Not happening! Then someone recognized me. We got a photo and caught up on the kids.

Next, sweet Lauren was working overtime trying to figure out how to beautify Fiona in a wheelchair. The shampoo station has the chair and basin attached so I couldn’t park my chair to get the scrub and massage I have been dreaming about. Lauren was sad she couldn’t find a solution then my scheduled technician came over and asked, “Are you Sarah?” I said, “Honey, I have changed my mind. I think it is too much trouble.” She and Abbey talked me into the eyebrow treatment. I have always loved getting my eyebrows done and that’s about all I have left. Then, Zuri piqued my interest with a spray, scalp moisturizer and refresher. I said, “Aw, go ahead (no pun intended.)” I got my head massage therapy! I felt loose as a goose. In fact so loose, I let her cut and style my hair. You see, it is hard to feel normal, but with patience and understanding mixed with love all things are possible. Those SOB’s helped my self esteem soar. (comic relief) If you need a little pick me up, check out those SOB ( Styles on Broadway) girls out. Just ask for Lauren and Zuri, the kindest SOBs I have ever met! I hope I made you laugh today. It is Friday and enjoy one more day!

  1. What a sweet picture! That baby doesn’t care what you look like. He loves you anyway. He’s looking at your eyes and sees the kindness and love there. Sarah, you spread sunshine everywhere you go. You are amazing and I’m in awe at your ability to find humor daily.
