Touch

“We don’t have a virtual God…God enters into the messiness of our world and he touches us.”
Today my devotional focused on touch. Boy, I miss giving hugs, the high fives, and simple firm handshakes. The past holiday weekend was a tough one. My independence of adjusting myself and driving was taken when my chin drive was rendered useless from being yanked out by my wheelchair. I was Stationary Sal from Friday thru Sunday. I was liberated July 6th when the wires were reconnected. It was so hard to be driven and adjusted. I was liberated with the chin control but then my freedom was snatched away. I thought about the freedom we have as Americans. The freedom that was given based on moral Judeo-Christian beliefs. How God played an important role in the culture. We tried to live in a way which showed brotherly love and morals and virtues were admired in society. The moral fabric is becoming threadbare. Children are not being raised with consequences because too many are raising themselves. It is threatening the freedom of their futures. Everything hinges on the strength of the family. I remember listening to “Focus on the Family” by James Dobson. These talks and his books helped me to put God at the center of my family. It helped me to raise moral children. Today the American family is in crisis. The freedom from morals is deteriorating the families in America. Our country is suffering. We have more materially and living in a digital world but are we freer, happier, or wiser than the past generations? I would say no. We give our time and attention to digital devices. This creates anxiety, competition, and comparison. We all turn to A.I. to seek out the truth but never truly find it like the Grinch. He snatched away all the Who’s “stuff” and were they still happy? Let’s take all the phones away. Would we stand hand in hand and start singing? Everything outside of our interests is ignored. We have become unteachable. Everything is based on emotions and feelings of individuals. How rational are we humans when we become distracted by our emotional strife? There has to be rational, level headed thinking that has stood the test of time through generations. What about good without a moral compass? Are the dark hearts of men capable to be good without God? Think about an existence of a world without God. Would it be brave and new? No boundaries and everything goes according to what the hearts of men want? I think of the devotional lesson about Jesus and how he healed with a touch. We are called to be Jesus to our brothers and sisters in a world where we would rather use a device rather than human contact. Reach out today and touch someone who is struggling. Be the loving touch the world needs. God is alive in us.
