John 7:30 His hour had not yet come.
In my mind, I have been thinking about the D-word. As soon as we are born we begin to die, like a light bulb. My husband’s wise father used to say this. It is true. Lifespans have always varied depending on access to resources, genetic dispositions, and environmental factors of where you are born.
Do you remember people saying, “He/She had a good death?” I hear the back row mumbling,”She has lost it. Nothing about the D-word is good.” Students, it is all about your perspectives. If you believe that this physical earthly life is all there is, you do not want a death. What have we learned this Lent? That’s right front row, our physical body goes back to ashes. Be not afraid. The moment it takes its last breath our spirits /souls are set free. We soar. Remember that many things can physically hurt or kill the body but your soul is sacred. Only you can allow it to be defiled or trapped for eternity. So what is a good death? In literature, it is when the main character, you in your life, dies whilst doing a virtuous, selfLESS act for others. Your death doesn’t allow evil to prevail.
We all have an hour when the D-word comes to our door. Be ready. Enjoy your life. Guard your soul. Mark 7:20-26 20 Then he went on, “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. 21 For from within, from the human heart, come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, 22 adultery, avarice, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, arrogance, and folly. 23 All these evils come from within, and they defile a person.” This Lent may be our final hour. Make sure that you love your neighbor as yourself and God above with all of your heart, mind, and soul. Then Easter thank Jesus for meeting His hour for ALL humanity.
