Take a Little Walk with Him

In my mind, I am thinking about Lent. The first Sunday of the 40 days leading up to the most important day for human beings. The promised Messiah came and fulfilled the prophecy of death and sin destroyed by this God Man named Jesus. Jesus in His 33 years changed the way to eternal life. Western culture is erasing the way, the truth, and the Life, everlasting Life.

The readings this Sunday remind us of the 40 days Jesus wandered in the desert with the devil tempting Him every step. This is our story today. Our culture is a literal desert and we are in the wilderness wandering around with temptations all around us. Have you defeated those temptations of me, myself, and I? Do you need more status, stuff, awards, power, cars, plastic surgery, money, or sex from strangers?  The Three Big P’s: POWER, POSSESSIONS, and PRIDE. You’re not alone in your struggles. We all fight to be the best we can be but thank God for His son who carried the cross. Students, we have to carry our crosses, too. You may not have one of the Three Big P’s but you may have a terminal disease, an addiction, or just lost, depressed, and seeking answers. This Lent, go to church somewhere and let God help you be strong and face the demons of this life.

Whether you give up a vice or serve others this Lent, be strong and get closer to the Creator. Meditate and listen. Read scripture. Reflect. When are you tempted most? How have you dealt with the wilderness in the desert? Share your experience; it could help someone floundering in the desert of sin. Last but not least, pray. God is real and knows each of us by name. You are made in His image. Take a little walk with Him this Lent.

Quotes:

“Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by
the Spirit in the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the
devil.” (Luke 4:1-2a)
“Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the
heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. For
we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our
weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we
are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:14-15)
“Blessed is anyone who endures temptation… No one, when tempted,
should say, ‘I am being tempted by God’; for God cannot be tempted
by evil and he himself tempts no one. But one is tempted by one’s own
desire, being lured and enticed by it; then, when that desire has con
ceived, it gives birth to sin, and that sin, when it is fully grown, gives
birth to death. Do not be deceived, my beloved.” (James 1:12-16)
