How long has God waited for you to come back to Him? If you are reading this, I am praying that today is the day you turn back your heart to God. Not a sliver but turn your whole heart toward Him. God wants me to share with you this treasured time, Lent, with you. Let us open the eyes of our hearts and turn back to Him. God is telling me to use what I have left, my eyes, mind, and words, to soften your hearts in a world of chaos, division, and indifference to other children of God. Yes, that is the only label that really matters. Each of you was created in His image. I hear many of you say, “Why am I here? What is my purpose?” I know the answer. It is not about any earthly acquired honor, fame, position, material objects, or temporary desire; it is about a heart sickness. What is crowding the spiritual space in your heart that is keeping you from your purpose? I hear you. Your purpose is to love God. How? Let’s begin step by step and day by day during Lent by looking around with “God Goggles” not Google and find someone to love, but here is the catch. You can’t tell anyone. It is between you and God. Return to your purpose. Today reminds us we are only ashes and this is our time together to Serve and Love and give God thanks for His CREATION.
Amen

Verses for Today:
Genesis 3:19 “for dust you are, and to dust you shall return”
Matthew 6:1-6“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
A reading from the Book of the Prophet Joel 2:12-18
Rend your hearts, not your garments.
Even now, says the Lord, / return to me with your whole heart, / with fasting, and weeping, and mourning; / Rend your hearts, not your garments, / and return to the Lord, your God. / For gracious and merciful is he, / slow to anger, rich in kindness, / and relenting in punishment. / Perhaps he will again relent / and leave behind him a blessing, / Offerings and libations / for the Lord, your God.
Blow the trumpet in Zion! / proclaim a fast, / call an assembly; / Gather the people, / notify the congregation; / Assemble the elders, / gather the children / and the infants at the breast; / Let the bridegroom quit his room / and the bride her chamber. / Between the porch and the altar / let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep, / And say, “Spare, O Lord, your people, / and make not your heritage a reproach, / with the nations ruling over them! / Why should they say among the peoples, / ‘Where is their God?’ ”
Then the Lord was stirred to concern for his land and took pity on his people.
The word of the Lord.
