Out of my body and into my mind, I am thinking about Lent. This was the second Sunday of Lent. It’s that time of year again to rededicate ourselves as followers of Jesus. Examine your hearts to see what drives your own behaviors. Sin is so slithery. It will slither in and become a habit. It will begin to squeeze out the good and allow the bad to inject it with the vice you fight to resist. The Evil One knows what part of your heart is weakest. Pride, lust, greed, sloth, covetousness(envy), wrath, and gluttony(over indulgence of anything) are humanity’s Achilles heels. We all have a vice to fight maybe multiple.
Jesus was tempted 40 days in the desert. He knows our plight as we journey down the human highway. He knows the past, present, and future except for when the last day will come.
Matthew 24: 36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[f] but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.
Be prepared for the last day. How? Just as Jesus was transfigured in this past Sunday’s readings. We need to transfigure our hearts. Fill your hearts full of wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord then the fruits of the Spirit will be ripened in your life. {love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, and chastity} Talk to your Father above and ask for help to make your hearts clean. Remember that only evil in your hearts will defile you.
