Out of my body and into my mind, today I am thinking about holiness. I am thinking about that light of God that we are all gifted to have. The ability to say “Yes, God, send me. I want to do good in the dangerous, dark world. Let me bring Your light..remember that song, ‘This Little Light of Mine I’m going to let it shine?’ It’s so very simple but so very hard for so many people. If you look in your Bible, look for those who said yes to God’s holy spirit and said YES to the Light. They got it. Paul got it on his way to Damascus. Peter got it when Jesus was arrested that fateful night. John got it as Jesus hung on the cross. The Widow mite understood where the Light was from and what the Light would do to her donation. Where are our Lights today?
I am writing this letter or blog to my diocese. They have elected me as an example of the Light of Christ. This is awarded each year in our Diocese. It is an award for who is shining Christ’s Light in our community. My priest, Father Patrick Hirtz, nominated me. Out of 55 Mission parishes nationwide, I am in the top 7! Oh, thanks be to God for such an honor. It’s a simple prayer I whisper, “God use me. Let all see you. I rest in You. Use my Earthly life to glorify You. Use me until my last breath.”
Is it very hard? For me, the Light of Christ saved me. Carrying the Light of Christ while living with a terminal disease helped me embrace the strength of God and His Holy Trinity. To say that I am thankful for a disease that takes so much of me seems unfathomable to most, but where would my life be without God? Where would your life be without God? Yes we never need to forget how to say yes to God.
Do you know where your life and your blessings come from? Look at our world. We are so lost, especially in the West. The Light will consume you from head to toe by saying yes. We adults have so many idols that are poison but we take those and embrace them as if they fill our lives with happiness. If you have the most beautiful house on the block or the most modern car or you are living on the top of the secular world does it sustain you? Many of you happy? Where does your happiness come from? Think your happiness comes from the secular world; it is temporary. Stock markets crash. Supply chains get interrupted. There is enough food for everyone but who controls it? There is so much for everyone if we look towards Jesus Christ’s example. There is nothing in this world that can sustain you in the secular world. Our God created a perfect world if we say yes to the Holy Spirit and allow it to guide your heart. That is where true happiness lives even in the world with horrible diseases, poverty, lust, and human trafficking. God will sustain us on this planet until we go to the next chapter.
How do you get there? How do you get there to true happiness? This is so hard for so many to do but you give it all up for God. If you see a need, fill it. Is it time, talent, or treasure? If you have two coats, one belongs to someone else, take it to a shelter. If you have extra food, share it with the least. If you see someone hurting, say a prayer for them and console them if you can. If you see a homeless person on the street don’t shy away, look them in the eyes. They are a child of God As You Are and tell them God bless you and God loves you just as I do. Support those organizations that support those who have nothing. Please don’t judge people for their station in life because everyone is born into a different situation. Many may see or say well it’s his fault or her fault. Yes, there is personal accountability but where there is no love there is no life or growing. It is our job to build that life and love and help those with the Light of Christ. We have to go forward to get the Light of Christ. Face our brothers and sisters who are hurting, who are addicted, who have been treated worse than animals. Remember the shirt with the slogan “no fear?” That is what the Holy Spirit does for you. You can face anything with no fear. We all will perish and die from this Earth but if you are filled with the light of Christ and do the work God puts in front of you your spirit will soar. Mortals can kill your physical body but they can’t touch your spirit. I am so honored that people see Christ in me. It is no longer I for eternity, but Christ who lives within me.
Thank you to my diocese and to all of you who know and love me and even those who don’t. God loves you and just let your light shine before all.
